Licensed Massage Therapist and Personal Wellness Guide

I am Mama Godzilla.

I grew up in Tokyo, Japan. My grandmother taught me massage at a very young age. I would massage the elderly people at my grandparents’ mahjong parlor on the first floor of their house. Their house was just minutes away from Asakusa Kannon Temple (pictured below). My Japanese/Buddhist upbringing is the foundation in my massage and yoga practices.

Somehow I ended up in Lubbock, Texas and walked (ran) onto the Texas Tech Women’s Cross Country team. I learned a lot about training and physiology but decided that running at a competitive level was not my jam. Instead I wandered over the to the University Recreation Center, and ended up becoming an Aerobics Instructor. I felt how rewarding it was to lead group exercise. There is something about the communal experience that is so good for our human nature. I didn’t know it at the time, but I had wandered onto the path of my calling.

I took the long way to get here. I graduated with a degree in Spanish and Economics. I was a counselor, then a research assistant in molecular and cellular laboratories, then became a voice recognition software engineer … and through all those JOBS, I was always massaging everyone around me. When I was pregnant, I decided life is too short to be run down by just any JOB - especially with my little guy on the way. So I decided to make it official and started massage therapy school. In 2006, 8 months pregnant with my first son, I passed my Florida licensing exam and officially began my journey as a healer.

The name Mama Godzilla has a back story. First of all, it's fun and silly - I think taking life too seriously doesn't serve most people. I basically stole the idea from my youngest son. He was using “Baby Godzilla” as his gamer tag.  I thought it was cute and clever so I started using Momma Godzilla for my online profiles. My son was not happy, and even threatened to sue!

In 2020 when I started Zoom yoga classes - I noticed that people would smile or even giggle when they saw the playlist was shared to them by “Momma Godzilla”.  And that is when I decided to use it as my business name - because if just reading the name of my business can bring someone a moment of light or joy - however fleeting it may be - I consider myself successful.  (I did change from Momma to Mama -ask me if you are ever curious why) It may not portray your typical massage therapist - but I am not your typical massage therapist.

I give school teachers a discount.  Teachers are building our future with limited support and resources and however I can help nurture their self care practice, I will. I often teach breathwork and yoga classes free of charge to local schools as my offering to the community.

Soon, I will be offering Herbal/Holistic consults.  I am in Herbalism school - studying to become a community herbalist practitioner.  I believe that just as true strength comes from within, true health is intuitive to our body systems.  Food is medicine.  Food is nourishing and nurturing and we can even grow most of what we need. I can not wait to share my knowledge with everyone.  Stay tuned!

Whether you come in for a massage or a yoga/wellness session, you will have my full undivided care and attention.  I love what I do. I feel honored and privileged to be able to make a living by helping people feel better, and to teach them to take better care of themselves.  If I am unable to help you, I will do my best to help you find someone who can.

As for my personal life - I love live music and will travel far to the most inconvenient places to see some of my favorite bands play.  I love fashion, art, and finding new areas of wellness to study.  If I’m not out seeing live music or hanging with my kids, I’m at home with my dog Blue.

PS - my son dropped talks of litigation after I cupped him and gave him the last piece of cake.
